Oxyporhamphus micropterus (Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1847) —Bigwing halfbeak
Status at New Ireland. Originally described from Carteret Harbour, New Ireland as Exocoetus micropterus by Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes (1847: 127), based on MNHN material; subsequently reported as Oxyporhamphus argenteus from Cape Lambert-Kalili Harbour and near Cape St. George, New Ireland, by Munro (1958: 138); reported from New Hanover and islands in Namatanai District by Parin et al. (1980: fig. 47 opposite p. 154).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 3, 5.—General distribution: East Africa east to Panama, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia, 0–6 m depth. Marine.
