Sargocentron diadema (Lacepède [ex Commerson] 1802)—Crown squirrelfish

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group, Namatamai District, New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 129). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 6 m depth, by Dean Tully on 17 Sept. 2012; a video of a specimen taken on east side of Tsoileunung Island, southeast of New Hanover, at 6–21 m depth, St. KR 124, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 5.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa east to Hawaiian Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to Western Australia at 17°30'S, Elizabeth and Middleton Reefs, and Austral Islands. Found in shallow coral and rocky reefs, including tidal pools, 0–60 m depth. Marine.
