Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken at northwestern Manne Island, Kavieng District, at 3–12 m depth, St. KR14, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Seychelles, Chagos Archipelago and Maldives east to Hawaiian Islands, Line Islands and Gambier Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands and Bonin- Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, New Caledonia, Tonga and Austral Islands. Found in coral reefs, hiding in holes and crevices during the day, 2–183 m depth. Marine.
