Sargocentron praslin (Lacepède [ex Commerson] 1802)—Darkstriped squirrelfish
Status at New Ireland. Originally described from Port Praslin, New Ireland by Lacepède (1802: 397, 419) as Perca praslin; a video of a specimen taken on the north coast of Kavieng District, at 6–24 m depth, St. KR164, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2, 3.—General distribution: East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Society Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in seaward coral reefs, hiding in holes and crevices during the day, 1–20 m depth. Marine.
