Status at New Ireland. New record, based on NTUM 12429 (1 specimen, 177.5 mm TL, St. CP 4255-16, 11.2 km northwest of Kavieng).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: antitropical in southeastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific: Japan, Hawaiian Islands, California (U.S.A.); southern Australia, Chesterfield Islands (New Caledonia), New Zealand region. Benthopelagic, 30–800 m depth. Marine.
