Syngnathoides biaculeatus (Bloch 1785) —Double-ended pipefish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on NTUM 11414 (1 specimen, 144.6 mm SL, St. KR 45, southwest Ungon Island, Kavieng District, 2°39.536’S 150°39.695’E, 1–3 m depth, 25 June 2014). Specimens photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 13 June 2010.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to southern Japan, south to New South Wales (Australia) and New Caledonia. In seagrass beds or among algae, in sheltered coral reef lagoons, 1–10 m depth. Marine.
