Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Ysabel Passage, New Hanover as Bhanotichthys fasciatus by Kailola (1975: 71). KFRS material.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Andaman Islands and Myanmar east to Philippines and Solomon Islands. Found on mud or silt substrates associated with coral or rocky reefs, 3–25 m depth. Marine.
