Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 7 Sept. 2010.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Galapagos Archipelago, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia at 14°04'S, New South Wales (Australia), New Caledonia and Tonga. Benthic in coral and rocky reefs, on reef flats, outer reef slopes, currentswept channels, and rarely on lagoon reefs, 5–43 m depth. Marine.
