Anyperodon leucogrammicus (Valenciennes [ex Reinwardt] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1828)—Slender grouper, slender rockcod (Fig. 50)

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group, Namatamai District, New Ireland by Randall & Heemstra (1991: 24). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and collected by Barry C. Russell on 14 June 2014. A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 14 June 2007; a video of a specimen taken off southeastern New Hanover, at 6–21 m depth, St. KR 124, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell). ANSP material.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2, 5.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa and Mascarenes east to Marshall Islands and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in coral-rich areas and clear waters on lagoon and seaward reefs, 1–80 m depth. Marine.
