Satyrichthys moluccense (Bleeker 1850) —Black-finned armoured gurnard

Status at New Ireland. New record from New Guinea, based on NTUM 12307 (1 specimen, 86.6 mm SL, St.

CP4446-12, north of New Hanover), NTUM 12308 (2 specimens, 133.8–182.3 mm SL, St. CP4439-17, northeast of New Hanover), NTUM uncat. (1 specimen, 77.3 mm SL, St. CP4447-19, north of New Hanover), and NTUM 12309 (1 specimen, 94.2 mm SL, St. CP4496-6, northwest of New Hanover).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Papua New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Benthic, on the continental slope, 192–534 m depth. Marine.

Remarks. This also represents a new depth record, as the species was previously known only to range down to 420 m depth.

Two additional specimens were collected from off southwestern New Britain (NTUM material).
