Peristedion longicornutum Fricke, Kawai, Yato & Motomura 2017 —Longhorn armoured gurnard

Status at New Ireland. Recorded from New Ireland and New Guinea in original description by Fricke et al. (2017: 92), based on NTUM 12297 (holotype, 100.7 mm SL, St. CP 4446-10, north of New Hanover), MNHN 2017-0006 (1 paratype, 113.1 mm SL, St. CP 4446-11, north of New Hanover), NTUM 12296 (1 paratype, 94.2 mm SL, St. CP 4418-9, northeast of New Hanover), NTUM 11071 (2 paratypes, 90.7–106.5 mm SL, St. CP 4419-4, CP4419-6, northeast of New Hanover), NTUM 11156 (2 paratypes, 99.8–116.6 mm SL, St. CP 4444-7-8, north of New Hanover), and NTUM 11167 (3 specimens, 97.4–108.8 mm SL, northeast of New Hanover).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Papua New Guinea to Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. Benthic, on the continental slope, 340–506 m depth. Marine.
