Epinephelus fuscoguttatus (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775) —Brown-marbled grouper
Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Tigak Islands, Kavieng, New Ireland by Wright & Richards (1985: 73); specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and collected by Barry C. Russell on 14 and 21 June 2014; a specimen observed at Nemto Island, New Hanover, 1–50 m depth, St. T 23, on 7 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga. Found on coral reefs (juveniles in seagrass beds), 0–60 m depth. Marine.
