Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group, Namatamai District, New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 130); a video of a specimen taken on east side of Tsoileunung Island, southeast of New Hanover, at 6–21 m depth, St. KR124, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 5.—General distribution: East Africa east to Micronesia, Line and Cook islands, north to Philippines, south to Western Australia. Found in coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1– 20 m depth. Marine.
