Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken at Manne Island, Kavieng District, 3– 25 m depth, St. KR42, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Mozambique Channel, Madagascar, Seychelles, Comores and western Mascarenes east to New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia and Queensland (Australia). Found in coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 5–150 m depth. Marine.
