Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland by Kailola (1987b: 232). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District at 18 m depth by Dean Tully on 27 Sept. 2015; another photographed at St. KVG18 (south side of Bauddisson Island, Kavieng District) by Serge Andréfouët on 18 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Tungelo Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–46 m depth, St. KR 104, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa east to northern Line and Tuamotu islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga. Found on the seaward slope of coral or rocky reefs, 6–120 m depth. Marine.
