Pseudochromis fuscus Müller & Troschel 1849 —Brown dottyback

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from St. Mathias by Duncker & Mohr (1929: 70), based on ZMH 13978; a video of a specimen taken on north coast of Manne Island, Kavieng District at 1–11 m depth, St. KR 36, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell), and another taken at Nubilus Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 3–32 m depth, St. KR 88.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 4.—General distribution: Sri Lanka east to Philippines and Vanuatu, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary in crevices in coral or rocky reefs, 1–30 m depth. Marine.
