Pseudanthias pleurotaenia (Bleeker 1857) —Squarespot anthias (Fig. 58)

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 3 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 14, as P. pleurataneia). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 2 Sept. 2006; a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover at 3– 47 m depth, St. KR 106, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in groups above steep seaward reef slopes, 6–180 m depth. Marine.
