Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen in a video of a specimen taken at the entrance to Kavieng Harbour, Kavieng District, at 15–18 m depth, St. KD58, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Caroline and Line islands and Pitcairn Group, north to Taiwan, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia), New Caledonia and Tonga. Found in seaward coral reefs, 5–65 m depth. Marine.
