Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen in a video of a specimen taken west of Nago Island, Kavieng District, at 4–26 m depth, St. KR16, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Easter Island, north to Japan, south to Western Australia, New South Wales (Australia), Lord Howe Island, New Caledonia, Tonga and Rapa. Found in coastal and seaward reefs, 1–20 m depth. Marine.
