Lactarius lactarius (Bloch & Schneider 1801) —False trevally

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Matanalaua River, New Hanover by Munro (1958: 179).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, Oman, Persian Gulf and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Fiji, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland (Australia). Found in coastal waters above soft bottoms, 1–100 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
