Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken in Senta Passage, southeast of New Hanover at 5–16 m depth, St. KR 118, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell), and another taken on the north coast of Kavieng District, at 6–24 m depth, St. KR 164.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: South and East Africa, Mozambique Channel, Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Marshall Islands and Fiji, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Forming aggregations above corals and in caves, 2–15 m depth. Marine.
