Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland as Apogon fragilis by Lewis et al. (1974); record confirmed by Kailola (1987b: 255). Record from Nusa Island, Kavieng District based on USNM 334053 (55); a specimen observed at Anelaua Island, New Hanover, 2–16 m depth, St. T 22, on 6 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa east to Samoa, north to Yaeyama Islands, south to Queensland (Australia). Forming aggregations among branching corals, 1–15 m depth. Marine.

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken on north coast of Manne Island, Kavieng District at 1–11 m depth, St. KR36, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
