Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 4 Mar. 2008, and at 8 m depth by Dean Tully on 2 July 2011; a video of a specimen taken at Anelaua Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 3–16 m depth, St. KR 98, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Palau, Yap and Vanuatu, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia. Aggregating above branching corals in coral-rich coastal and lagoon reefs, 1–40 m depth. Marine.
