Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland as Leiognathus splendens by Kimura et al. (2005: 286), based on URM-P 20854-20855.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: India east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia. Schooling in coastal waters, 10–100 m depth. Marine.
