Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen observed at Selapiu Island, Kavieng District, 1–31 m depth, St. T 14, on 3 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Marshall Islands, Tonga and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Western Australia and Queensland (Australia). Solitary or in small groups in reefs, 2–200 m depth. Marine.
