Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group, Namatamai District, New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 129); specimens photographed at St. KVG25 (off southeastern New Hanover) by Serge Andréfouët on 22 Aug. 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 5.—General distribution: East Africa, Seychelles and La Réunion (Mascarenes) east to Hawaiian Islands and Revillagigedo Islands (Mexico), north to Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia and Lord Howe Island. Found in small groups in coastal water including estuaries, 3–168 m depth. Marine.
