Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group, Namatamai District, New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 129).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 5.—General distribution: nearly circumglobal in tropical and warm temperate oceans, except eastern Pacific. Adult near reefs, juveniles floating offshore, 1–360 m depth. Marine.
