Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group, Namatamai District, New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 130).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 5.—General distribution: East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Marshall Islands and Society Islands, north to southern Japan, south to off northwestern Australia, Queensland (Australia), New Caledonia and Tonga. Schooling above deep reefs or rock bottom, 70–350 m depth. Marine.
