Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group, Namatamai District, New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 130).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 5.—General distribution: Comores and Mascarenes, Andaman Sea east to Hawaiian Islands and Rapa, north to southern Japan, south to off northwestern Australia, Queensland (Australia), New Caledonia and Tonga. Schooling above deep reefs or rock bottom, 90–360 m depth. Marine.
