Symphorichthys spilurus (Günther 1874) —Sailfin snapper

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kulineua River, New Hanover as Symphorus spilurus by Munro (1958: 194). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and by Barry C. Russell on 28 June 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Palau and Vanuatu, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in mixed sand-coral habitats, 5–60 m depth. Marine.
