Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group, Namatamai District, New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 130).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 5.—General distribution: East Africa, Seychelles, Comores and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands and Marquesas Islands, north to southern Japan, south to off northern Western Australia, Queensland (Australia), New Caledonia, Lord Howe Island, and Tonga. Schooling above deep reefs or rock bottom, 70–300 m depth. Marine.
