Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken on north coast of Manne Island, Kavieng District at 1–11 m depth, St. KR36, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Chagos Archipelago, Maldives, Cocos- Keeling and Christmas islands east to Line Islands. Schooling near coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 10–50 m depth. Marine.
