Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken off southeastern New Hanover at 3–16 m depth, St. KR 98, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); a specimen observed in Nusa Channel, Kavieng District, 1–19 m depth, St. T 2, on 30 Oct. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Maldives and Sri Lanka east to Caroline Islands and Vanuatu, north to Philippines, south to New Caledonia. Schooling near coastal and seaward coral reefs, 1–30 m depth. Marine.
