Macolor niger (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775) —Black snapper

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on photographs taken on 1 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District. A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 16 Aug. 2009; another photographed at St. KVG28 (southeast of New Hanover) by Serge Andréfouët on 24 Aug. 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Marshall Islands, Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to off northwestern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on steep outer walls of lagoon, channel and seaward coral reef slopes, 1–90 m depth. Marine.
