Scolopsis lineata Quoy & Gaimard 1824 —Striped monocle bream
Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Hanover as Scolopsis cancellatus by Peters (1877: 832); reported from Emirau Island, St. Mathias as Scolopsis cancellatus by Kailola (1975: 138). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 4.—General distribution: Andaman Sea east to Caroline Islands and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in groups, on sand bottoms adjacent to coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1–20 m depth. Marine.
