Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 2 m depth, by Dean Tully on 22 June 2013; another photographed at St. KVG20 (east of Enuk Island, Kavieng District) by Serge Andréfouët on 20 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken off Nubilus Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–32 m depth, St. KR 88, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Andaman Sea east to Philippines and Vanuatu, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in groups, on sand bottom adjacent to coral reefs, 0–25 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
