Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed on 3 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; a video of a specimen taken in Senta Passage, east of New Hanover, at 5–16 m depth, St. KR 118, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Seychelles east to Marshall Islands and New Guinea, north to Malaysia, south to New Caledonia. Solitary or in small groups, in sheltered coral reefs, 1–60 m depth. Marine.
