Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 1–2 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District, and at St. KVGPMT 27 in Kavieng District by Serge Andréfouët on 16 Aug. 2014; others photographed at St. KVG18 (south side of Bauddisson Island, Kavieng District) by Serge Andréfouët on 18 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Martha's Shoal, east of New Hanover, St. KR 154, at 6–20 m depth, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Caroline Islands and Tonga, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found solitary or in groups, on soft bottoms associated with coastal or seaward reefs, 1–80 m depth. Marine.
