Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District at 16 m depth by Dean Tully on 7 July 2011, and at St. KVG 14 in Kavieng District by Serge Andréfouët on 16 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken in Senta Pass, east of New Hanover at 5–12 m depth, St. KR 114, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Maldives and Sri Lanka east to Philippines and Solomon Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia. Solitary or in groups, in rubble areas of coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 5–50 m depth. Marine.
