Lethrinus nebulosus (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775) —Spangled emperor
Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland by Munro (1958: 202). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and by Barry C. Russell on 7 and 14 June 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Mozambique Channel, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, New South Wales (Australia) and Lord Howe Island and New Caledonia. Found on various soft substrates associated with coral reefs, 1–75 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
