Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Matanalaua River, New Hanover by Munro (1958: 207). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Marshall, Society and Marquesas islands, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia; introduced at Hawaiian Islands. Solitary or in groups, on silt or mud bottoms, 5–100 m depth. Marine.
