Status at New Ireland. First recorded from West Harbour, New Hanover and Emirau Island, St. Mathias Group by Kailola (1975: 154); reported from New Ireland by Allen & Erdmann (2012: 511); a specimen observed at north coast of Kavieng District, 2–24 m depth, St. T7, on 1 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen. KFRS material.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 4.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Philippines and Solomon Islands, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in large schools in caves and under ledges, 10–25 m depth. Marine.
