Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken at Kavieng, Kavieng District, 0–11 m depth, St. KR 22, on 5 June 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken off Nubilus Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–32 m depth, St. KR 88, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Marshall Islands and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia and New South Wales (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in coral-rich areas of coral reefs, 1–20 m depth. Marine.
