Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District by Dietmar Amon on 22 Aug. 2008, and at Lissenung Island, 6 m depth, by Dean Tully on 19 Oct. 2011; a specimen observed at Nemto Island, New Hanover, 1–50 m depth, St. T23, on 7 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Sri Lanka east to Line and Tuamotu islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Usually in pairs, in coralrich areas of lagoon reefs and outer slopes of seaward reefs, 2–30 m depth. Marine.
