Chaetodon rafflesii Anonymous [Bennett] 1830—Latticed butterflyfish
Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland as Chaetodon princeps by Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes (1831: 33), based on MNHN 9923, and from Port Praslin, New Ireland by Lesson (1831: 177); subsequently reported from New Hanover by Peters (1877: 832) and Ahl (1923: 158). Specimens photographed in Kavieng region on 3–4 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey. A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 22 Aug. 2008.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 3.—General distribution: Sri Lanka east to Tuamotu Archipelago, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in pairs, usually in coral-rich areas of coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1–15 m depth. Marine.
