Pomacanthus xanthometopon (Bleeker 1853) —Yellow-mask angelfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed on 2 June 2013, first dive, during ACIAR Aquarium Survey at Kavieng (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 14, as P. xanthometapon); a specimen observed at Kavieng fish market by Barry C. Russell on 14 June 2014. A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 22 Aug. 2008; a video of a specimen taken on east side of Tsoileunung Island, southeast of New Hanover, at 6–21 m depth, St. KR 124, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.— Maldives and Chagos Archipelago east to Philippines and Vanuatu, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in coral-rich areas of coral reefs, 5–30 m depth. Marine.
