Status at New Ireland. First recorded from St. Mathias by Duncker & Mohr (1929: 60), based on ZMH 11801.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 4.—General distribution: East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Caroline and Tuamotu islands, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in estuaries and fast-flowing stretches of middle and lower reaches of rivers, 0–2 m depth. Freshwater and transitional water.
