Pelates quadrilineatus (Bloch 1790) —Fourlined terapon

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Barry C. Russell during Kavieng fish market survey on 7 and 14 June 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Philippines, New Guinea and Vanuatu, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia and southeastern Queensland (Australia); Mediterranean Sea (Red Sea immigrant). Found in inshore areas, usually near mangroves; often in estuaries, 0–4 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
