Status at New Ireland. New record, based on photographs taken on 1–3 and 5 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 14); others photographed at St. KVG20 (east of Enuk Island, Kavieng District) by Serge Andréfouët on 20 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken off Nubilus Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–32 m depth, St. KR88, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Caroline Islands and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island. Solitary, in pairs or in small groups, in coral-rich or rubble areas of lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1–25 m depth. Marine.
