Status at New Ireland. New record, based on NTUM 11306 (1 specimen, 62.4 mm SL, St. CP 4490-6, northwest of New Hanover); a video of a specimen from off Kulinus Island, Kavieng District, 10–11 m depth, St. KR 62, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Christmas and Cocos-Keeling islands (eastern Indian Ocean) and Indonesia east to Caroline and Tuamotu islands, north to Yaeyama Islands, south to northwestern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in loose aggregations on steep seaward reef slopes, 12–155 m depth. Marine.
